TRASHIGANG – THE JEWEL OF THE EAST

Trashigang is Bhutan's largest district, consisting of three sub-districts and fifteen villages under its domain. It shares its borders with the Indian states of Assam & Arunachal Pradesh. The district is relatively extensive, covering some of the crucial natural reserves and biological corridors. Apart from that, it is also the main center of international trade from the neighboring state of Assam. Apart from the Paro International Airport, you will find a domestic Airport at Trashigang, the Yonphula Airport. Bhutan's most acclaimed college, the Shebrutse College is situated here as well.

Trashigang Dzong

This ancient fortress was built in 1659, to defend the region from invading Tibetans. The attackers retreated claiming it not on the ground but rather on the sky, owing to its astounding height. It is an architectural marvel.

Trashigang Tsechu

Celebrated in the Trashigang Dzong, this event cannot be missed. Apart from locals, exotic nomads from the Merak Valley walk in to witness the celebration, making it a colorful and culturally rich affair.

Radhi Village

Walk in here if you want to get your hands on some pure silk & traditionally dyed attires that are hand-woven by the residents themselves, who belong to the generations of expert indigenous craftsmen.

Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary

This sanctuary was demarcated to protect the habitat of the "migoi". A migoi is a Yeti and the Bhutanese believe in their existence and have an exclusive sanctuary dedicated to preserving their habitat.

HOW TO REACH TRASHIGANG

You can reach Trashigang via two road routes. The first route is a northern one that crosses through Jakar & Mongar. The southern route passes through India. Irrespective of your location, we make convenient arrangements for your travel through the shortest route.
